Charles Buell

Charles L. Buell, 74, a lifelong resident of Greensburg, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Hospice Center of Southeastern Indiana in Columbus, IN. Charles was born the eldest son of Howard L. Buell and Virigina (Everroad) Ramer on November 19, 1935 in Greensburg, Indiana. He attended the Greensburg Community Schools and finished his formal education while serving in the military. Charles joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served as a Non-Commissioned Officer on the U.S.S. Currituch. He was honorably discharged in October, 1956. On May 18, 1957 Charles and the former Virgie Hatton exchanged wedding vows at the First Baptist Church in Greensburg, IN. Charles was a member of the Community Church of Greensburg, serving on the building committee, a member of the American Legion Post #129 of Greensburg, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and also served on the Military Honor Guard with the American Legion. Charles worked for several locals during his early married life but is probably best remembered as the owner/operator of Buell’s Taxi Service from 1962-1969 and for his 30 years of service to Milestone, INC. During his tenure with Milestone, Charles worked in many capacities for this company, in 1995 he was named Superintendent of the year. He ended his career in 2001 as a Project Manager. After finishing his political career, Charles spent the last year and a half of his life as a Security Officer for Honda. Charles will certainly be remembered for his strong work ethic and his attention to detail. Charles also had a great love for his community and fellow man, in 2000 He was elected to the office of Decatur County Commissioner. For the next eight years he worked diligently and unselfishly to provide leadership, vision, and fiscal direction for the betterment of Decatur County. Charles gave his all to that position and was very proud to serve his community. Charles greatest love however, was his family. Together Charles and Virgie had four children; Teresa (John) Ruble, Greensburg, Jane (Greg) Weber, Greensburg, and the late Tom and Tim Buell, nine grandchildren; Kristi (Trent) Swartzentruber, Sheri Helms, Matt (Tina) Weber, Keith (Victoria) Weber, Jeremy Ruble, Cole Weber, Danielle (Adam) Ellis, Brock Weber and Lacey J. Buell, and 8 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters; Linda (Mayburn) Hatton, Middletown, Ohio, Nina Kessler, Columbus, IN, Barbara Elliott, Portland, Oregon, and one brother; Larry (Butch) Buell, Greensburg, one half-sister; Jackie (Dennis) Osborne, Westport, IN., and two half-brothers; Gary (Carrie) Ramer, and Kevin (Brenda) Ramer of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Thomas Lowell and Timothy Charles Buell, one sister; Luella (Ralph) Land, and one brother; Danny Buell. Friends may call from 2-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Community Church of Greensburg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Church of Greensburg with Pastor Jon Porter and Rev. Jerran Jackson officiating. Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery, with the American Legion conducting military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southeastern Indiana or to the Community Church of Greensburg Building fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home.
